Russia forbid imports of all fresh vegetables that come from the European Union. The ban is due to pollution concerns that plagued E.coli bacteria in Germany a few days.
The ban came as a quarter of vegetables from the European Union was sent to Russia. In fact, the former Soviet Union countries it is the single largest export market for EU farmers. Germany and Spain since the beginning of this week has been forbidden to send fresh vegetables to Russia.
In fact, Russian Head of Health said all the vegetables from the European Union which had already circulated shall be withdrawn circulation.
At least 1500 people have been exposed to enterohaemorrhagic E. coli infection, which can cause fatal disease hemolytic-uremic syndrome, HUS. To date, 17 people have died otherwise have died, 16 of which came from Germany and one in Sweden because of contamination of E.coli bacteria.
“My calls to everybody to not eat fresh vegetables from the European Union and replace it with local vegetables,” said Chairman of the consumer protection agency, Gennady Onischchenko. He also criticized the food safety standards in the European Union which has been glorified respectable was not working properly.
